I’m going to work/travel in New Zealand for a year. When is the best time to arrive there?

For year and would know more people by summer and will be here for year and will experience evert season anyway but would know more people.

Depends what you prefer. i didnt work in NZ but its great for travelling and hitchicking is a good option as you get lifts quite easily and meet the locals that way.
If you want to buy a vehical then you would be much better off starting in March/April as thats when everyone is selling them at the end of the common travel season. In Sept/Oct they are all buying them so you wont get a good deal.In April you can get a real bargain,and then sell for more in Oct.
Dont buy a travel pass as you get discounted special deals almost every leg of the way.The few train journeys in the south Island are great, and you also meet people who have a spare seat in the car,or a few hundred miles of bus pass left to sell for a few dollars.
