I’m portuguese & would like to visit new zealand for 3 months & work whilst there?

i know portugal has a visa waiver agreement with new zealand so i can visit visa free for upto 3 months, however i wish to work whilst there so will need to obtain a work visa of some sort. i have tried contacting the new zealand consulate in lisbon but no one ever picks up the phone or returns calls on the messages i leave. does anyone know where i can get more info from? i don’t have a formal job offer but have a friend with many contacts in tourism who is sure he can get me work. i would like to travel this october. can i obtain a work visa once in NZ when i have a job offer? any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks!
